Enrique Sapene : The Global Architect of Bilingual Entertainment

From on screen talent to award winning producer, Enrique Sapene is shaping culture through stories that connect the U.S. and Hispanic worlds.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, to a family of French and Venezuelan descent, Enrique L. Sapene carries a worldview shaped by culture, movement, and creative fluency across borders. Now based in Los Angeles, Sapene has built a career that moves seamlessly between continents, languages, and formats, redefining what it means to create global storytelling in modern media.

Raised in Venezuela, Enrique’s academic path was as international as his creative vision. After graduating from Jefferson College, he spent a formative year studying at Sorbonne University in Paris, an experience that deepened his understanding of culture and narrative. He later continued his education in the United States at Parsons School of Designand Rhode Island School of Design, ultimately completing his studies in Communication in Los Angeles, California. That multicultural foundation would become the backbone of a career rooted in identity, media, and storytelling with purpose.

Enrique’s early professional years unfolded on screen. He began as on-air talent for Control on Univision, followed by hosting duties on Livin’ Large. His presence soon expanded into scripted television, with roles in major telenovelas including El Alma Herida alongside Itatí Cantoral, and Pecadora with Eduardo CapetilloLitzy, and Marjorie de Sousa. These projects established him as a recognizable and respected figure across Spanish-language television.

A pivotal moment came in 2008 when Enrique joined the cast of Viva Hollywood, produced by Sofía Vergara. The series introduced him to a broader, multicultural audience and marked the beginning of a more expansive phase in his career.

He went on to work on multiple projects for Telemundo and Univision in Miami before returning to Los Angeles, where he immersed himself in independent film. Several of those projects were recognized at major festivals, including Sundance Film Festival, reinforcing his commitment to ambitious, story-driven work.

A defining turning point arrived with My Life Is a Telenovela on WE tv, where Enrique was announced as part of the cast and met Rubén Consuegra, his future business partner. What began as an on-camera opportunity evolved into a creative partnership that would reshape his career.

Together, Enrique Sapene and Rubén Consuegra co-founded River Waves Productions, a bilingual production company focused on developing premium content for both the U.S. general market and the Hispanic audience. In collaboration with Canela Media, they became the creators of the highly successful Secretos de Villanas franchise, which includes Secretos de las Indomables and Secretos de Parejas. The franchise has become known for blending spectacle, intimacy, and cultural relevance, resonating with audiences across borders.

Enrique is also the creator and executive producer of The Q Agenda, the only nationally syndicated talk show in the United States dedicated to the Hispanic LGBTQ+ community. Now spanning more than 11 seasons, the show has become a groundbreaking platform for visibility, dialogue, and representation, earning Enrique a GLAAD Special Recognition Award for its lasting cultural impact.

Today, based in Los Angeles, Enrique and Rubén lead River Waves Productions during a moment of rapid expansion. The team has just returned from an extended stay in Mexico, where they completed production on a new project set to be announced soon for a major industry-leading platform. With multiple projects currently in development, Enrique Sapene continues to stand at the forefront of a new generation of creators, fluent in culture, language, and vision, crafting stories that travel effortlessly across borders and redefine global entertainment.
